Q. When will after-school clubs begin?
A. Late buses will begin for Academics in late September with clubs and programs beginning in October. Check with the Club Sponsor and on the website to be sure. Be sure to note the days we do NOT have after-school programs. They will be listed on the School website calendar and the After-School program calendar.
Q. How will I know when each club has its first meeting?
A. All club information will be well-publicized prior to start dates. In addition, club information can be found on the After-School website and on student's Blackboard account & Google accounts. Students may also contact Mrs. Donlon for information. Information about programs will be broadcast during Lion Time in the weeks prior to After-school programs starting.
Q. How do I sign up for after-school clubs?
A. There are several ways to sign up:
- Tuesday and Friday clubs (no-bus days) are by sign-up only and require additional parent permission forms. This is to ensure that you have been notified that your child will be staying and that you will need to pick them up.
- Monday/Wednesday/Thursday program sign-ups will be online starting 2 weeks before each session begins. Some programs may have other sign ups. Academic interventions take precedent to attending fun clubs and activities. Some clubs may require an additional permission form and have a fee.
Q. What if I cannot attend all meeting dates?
A. Students should speak to the Club Sponsor regarding participation and should try to attend all program days. The exception is for academic interventions or help. Most programs will be offered each session, so students who are unable to sign up for the first session can do so in the 2nd and/or 3rd sessions.
Q. Do I have to attend every club session?
A. Each club has different guidelines and expectations. Attendance in the after-school program is voluntary except for those in the P.A.W.S. program.
Q. Is there always a late bus on days clubs are held?
A. No.....late buses only run on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Tuesday and Friday, parents must pick up their child no later than 5:00pm.
Q. How can my child arrange to get after-school help from his/her teacher?
A. Students/parents should speak directly with teachers regarding extra help after school. Teachers generally post their availability in the classroom, and most are available at least one day a week. Students may go to the Library or BASE if their teacher is not available; however, they must sign up by noon.
Q. What is the procedure for picking up my child after school on late bus days?
A. Please use the Kiss & Ride Line to pick up your student after 4:15pm. DO NOT ENTER THE BUS LANES AFTER 4:00PM!
Q. What if I need to pick up my child earlier than 4:15pm?
A. You must come into the building through Door #8 (by the cafeteria) to sign your student out in the After-School office. Please use the doorbell located on the left side of the door to enter the building.
Q. What types of activities will be offered during the 2018-2019 school year?
A. An official activity/club guide will be available through the After-School website, their after-school Google Classroom, and Blackboard. You can access the After-School website through the Liberty website. It is updated regularly throughout the school year. Clubs and special workshops and programs are offered intermittently during the year.
Q. Will my child be allowed to call home after school in order to seek permission to stay after?
A. Students will be allowed to use the phone in the After-School office for emergency situations. We ask that parents and students communicate before coming to school about what the after-school plan is, and how they are getting home. Until all attendance is taken, it is extremely difficult for us to locate any particular student when we have such high volume after school.
Q. Which days of the week are after-school clubs, activities, and teacher assistance offered?
A. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the usual days for after-school clubs and activities.
- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday club/activities are offered on a block schedule.
-> The second block (B block) (3:30-4:30pm) will be more recreation based.
-> Late buses will depart on these days between 4:40 and 4:50pm.
- Tuesday and Friday programs run from 2:15-5:00pm with parent pick-up only.
Q. Can I join a club any time during the year?
A. Yes, as long as there is still room in the club. Sign ups will be through their Google Classroom for each session and program. Students can check with Mrs. Donlon if they have questions.
Q. What if I cannot attend right away due to other commitments. Can I still join?
A. In most cases, you may. It is best to contact Mrs. Donlon to be sure there is still room in the program.
Q. How much does the After-School Program cost?
A. It's FREE thanks to your Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and Fairfax County Public Schools!!! Some clubs may have supply fees associated with them.
Q. Can I walk home on late bus days?
A. NO. Liberty Middle School does not allow students to walk home on late bus days or "No bus" days for safety reasons (crossing a busy street--Union Mill Road).
Q. How many days a week can students participate in after-school activities?
A. All 5 days. We are happy to have as many students as would like to stay. Be sure that on Parent Pick-Up days, parents will be there to pick the student up by 5:00pm.
Q. What days are there NO BUSES?
A. There are no buses on Tuesdays and Fridays. Parents will need to come into the school and sign out their student by 5:00pm.
Q. How can I find out more about each club?
A. Club descriptions and schedules can be found on the After-School website and on your student's Blackboard account.
